Oil and gas machined parts are the manifolds, fittings, valve components, flanges and brackets that process equipment is built from. Maketeq machines them to your drawing for equipment makers worldwide, in stainless steel, mild steel, brass and the other metals on our list. Every order is inspected against the drawing and ships with its QC report, mill certificates and ISO 9001 documentation.

Which oil and gas parts do you machine?

Most of the work is turned and milled components, plus the sheet metal on skids and instruments. This is how the parts route, with the metal series that usually suit them:

Part Process Metals that suit
Manifolds and valve blocks CNC milling and drilling Stainless 300 series; mild steel where corrosion isn’t a concern; brass
Fittings, adapters, couplings and plugs CNC turning Stainless 300 or 400 series, free-cutting brass, mild steel 12xx
Valve stems, seats and bushes Turning and milling Stainless 300 or PH series, tool steel, brass
Custom flanges to drawing Turning and milling Stainless 300 series, mild steel
Instrument and junction-box housings Milling, or laser cutting and bending Stainless 300 series, aluminum 5xxx or 6xxx
Pump sleeves and bushes Turning and milling Stainless, tool steel, brass
Skid frames, guards and cable trays Laser cutting and bending Mild steel with paint or powder coating, stainless 300 series

The pressure rating, test and design code of the equipment stay with you. We make the parts to your drawing.

Material first

From your drawing to certified parts

In this industry the material and its paperwork matter as much as the dimensions. The material route is settled before anything is cut.

  • Requirements

Material grade, service conditions, standards and certificate type from your drawing.

  • Material route

The grade confirmed against our materials list, with its mill certificate.

  • Machine

Turned and milled to your drawing.

    Learn more
  • Finish

Passivation, painting, plating or as-machined, as ordered.

  • Inspect and certify

Checked against your drawing, with the QC report, certificates and any reports you asked for.

If the grade or the standard on your drawing is outside what we machine, we say so before quoting, not after.

There is no standard tolerance that applies to every part. What we can hold depends on the part: geometry, size, wall thickness, material, process, finish and how the feature is inspected. We work to the tolerances on your drawing and confirm them in the quote.

Honest scope

What we machine, and what to check first

We machine the seven metal families on our materials list. Alloys typical of sour service and high-pressure equipment aren't on it, so check before you send.

On our materials list

  • Stainless steel 200, 300, 400 and PH series
  • Mild steel 10xx, 11xx and 12xx series
  • Brass and copper
  • Titanium grades 1 to 4 and grade 5
  • Aluminum, tool steel

Not on our list: ask first

  • Duplex and super duplex stainless steel
  • Nickel alloys
  • Low-alloy steels such as the 41xx series
  • Forgings for standard ASME B16.5 flanges

Which metals can you machine for oil and gas parts?

We machine stainless steel, mild steel, brass, copper, titanium, aluminum and tool steel, by alloy series. Stainless steel is the usual choice for wetted and outdoor parts. Our CNC machining materials page explains how the stainless series differ.

Duplex and super duplex stainless, nickel alloys and low-alloy steels such as the 41xx series aren’t on our list. Many sour service and high-pressure parts call for exactly those, so if your drawing names one, tell us first and we’ll say before quoting whether we can help.

Can you make parts for sour service?

CNC machine shop with machining centers, tool carts and workbenches

Only when the material suits it. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sets the requirements for metals used in oil and gas production equipment exposed to hydrogen sulfide (H2S). It’s published jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP).

The standard places the material choice with the equipment designer, and it often points to alloys outside our list. State sour service and the exact grade on the drawing. We confirm the material route before quoting, or tell you plainly that the part is outside what we machine.

Can you machine flanges?

Yes, to your drawing. ASME B16.5 from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) covers standard pipe flanges from NPS 1/2 to NPS 24. It calls for cast or forged material, with plate allowed only for blind and certain reducing flanges. A flange machined from bar or plate isn’t a B16.5 flange, even if the dimensions match.

So we make custom and non-standard flanges and flange adapters to drawing. If your flange must comply with B16.5, tell us with the drawing, and the material route is confirmed before quoting.

Which certificates and reports come with my parts?

A mill certificate comes with every order, along with QC inspection and ISO 9001 documentation. EN 10204, from the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), defines the types of inspection document. If your specification calls for type 3.1, say so: a 3.1 material test certificate is available on request.

These reports are also available on request:

  • Material verification: positive material identification (PMI).
  • Non-destructive testing: liquid penetrant (LPI) and magnetic particle (MPI) inspection.
  • Dimensional: a CMM inspection report or first article inspection report.

We don’t supply API monogrammed equipment, which only API licensees can mark (API).

What should an oil and gas RFQ include?

Most delays on process parts come from a requirement that was in the buyer’s head, not on the drawing. Put these on the drawing or the order:

  • The exact grade, not just “stainless”, and the material standard if one applies.
  • The service conditions: sour service, chloride or seawater exposure, and the operating temperature range.
  • The certificate type, such as EN 10204 type 3.1.
  • The reports you need, such as PMI, LPI, MPI or a CMM inspection report.
  • The thread or end-connection standard for every port and fitting.
  • The finish, such as passivation on stainless or paint on carbon steel.

With those in hand, the quote states what we can supply, and nothing is assumed.

Right first time

Why process parts fail inspection, and how we prevent it

Most rejects in this industry are about material or paperwork, not size. These are the ones we ask about before quoting.

  • Part cracks in H2S service

Why:The material wasn't suited to sour service.

State sour service and the exact grade on the RFQ. We confirm before quoting whether the material is on our list.

  • Certificate rejected at receiving inspection

Why:The specification needed an EN 10204 type 3.1 document and a different type arrived.

We ask which certificate type you need. A 3.1 material test certificate is available on request.

  • Flange fails inspection against ASME B16.5

Why:It was machined from bar or plate where the standard calls for cast or forged material.

Order non-standard flanges to drawing, or tell us the standard so the material route is confirmed first.

  • Pitting or rust in service

Why:300 series stainless used in chloride or seawater exposure, or carbon steel left bare.

We ask about the service environment and discuss the series and finish at the quote.

Questions buyers ask about oil and gas machined parts

Do you supply NACE MR0175 compliant parts?

Only where the material on the drawing is one we machine and suits the service. Tell us the grade and the requirement with the drawing, and we confirm before quoting.

Which stainless steel is used for process equipment parts?

The 300 series is the usual starting point for wetted and outdoor parts. Chloride or seawater exposure may call for a different series or alloy, so tell us the service environment.

Do you do pressure testing?

Pressure testing isn’t among the reports we offer. The equipment’s pressure test stays with the equipment maker.

Do you send a sample before production?

Yes. A sample part is made and sent to you for reference before production starts.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No. You can order one part or a production batch.
